How to create good Elearnings

How to generate a digital course yourself?

Some eLearnings are so exciting and you learn a lot. Even more, new horizons open and been through the course you work and think in a new way. How to make a difference? O‘Peep has put together the most important aspects:

Make your eLearnings interactive

Why as interactive as possible? Because this keeps your learners awake. Reflecting questions makes learning much more effective. For example:

  • Let your learners guess about a situation before you move forward
  • Give learners a chance to discover contents in their pace by making them click visuals to find more information.
  • Challenge every theory input by some smart check-your-understanding questions which lead to deepening the knowledge
  • Mind that questions with answers need very good explanation

Different types of learners

Don‘t forget you have people who learn best reading, others hearing, again others by good visualization. Most people are mixed types and learn best by applying their new knowledge. Your eLearnings must work for all these types of people.

Provide:

  • Audio for those who prefer hearing
  • Text that must of course fit the audio - as few as possible
  • Visualize: pictures, graphs, drawings, movies
  • Exercises

We offer an exciting repertoire of eLearnings for Operational Excellence building on 20 years in Training and Consultancy.

Challenge your learners

Bring in some fun from playing games. Confront learners with typical situations where they have to apply what they have learned.

  • Bring in a spirit of competition
  • Work with challenges, for example, display time. How fast are you? Do you manage to get faster?
  • People like close-to-reality challenges, situations they know. This helps especially when contents look simple at first glance.
  • Give options to play through and show results
  • Case studies

Salami tactic

There are situations when it‘s best to summarize everything on one slide. Creating eLearnings, go ahead the other way around! Otherwise people will miss contents.

  • Each key message goes to a separate slide
  • Give room for more difficult contents, and make sure people can go deeper
  • Allow for exploring details step-by-step
  • The digital format allows to keep overview at the same time as enabling deep dives. Going for this you just make topics on higher level clickable.

However, allow people who are already familiar with some contents to skip what they know or to move forward really quickly.

Clarity

What differenciates eLearnings from instructor-led trainings is that people cannot ask questions. And the trainers cannot see the faces of their trainees, so do not grasp what is understood and what not. You leave your learners all alone with their problems. So,

  • Make sure misunderstandings cannot occur regarding what is a correct answer, and what is not. People get frustrated if this feels unfair.
  • Theory: Short, crisp and helpful, not leaving key points open.
  • Use visuals to clarify what you want to express

Humour

Well, humour is not for everybody, but we appreciate it and we decided to focus on clients who value having fun at work and while learning. You need to evaluate what your learners appreciate.  We hope to find enough of such people on the globe.
